B.T. Fitzpatrick III serves as Town Manager, responsible for implementing the vision and directives of the Town Council and serving the residents of the Town. Supporting Town staff, coordinating with community groups and agency partners are other important roles for the manager.
B.T. has twenty years combined experience in local government and private consulting. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Public and Urban Affairs from Virginia Tech in 1998. His specialties include consensus building, strategic planning, and business development. A native of Roanoke, he is very familiar with the Town of Boones Mill and Franklin County.
B.T.’s prior experience includes serving as an Airport Operations Officer in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, a Planner with Hill Studio, P.C. in Roanoke, a City Planner/GIS Tech with the City of Roanoke, and GIS Client Advocate at Anderson and Associates, Inc. As GIS Client Advocate, he led the consultant design team for the Boones Mill Depot stabilization project. As Town Manager, he continues to serve on the Depot Committee.
At the City of Roanoke, B.T. served as key member of the City’s Brownfield Redevelopment Team. He administered and directed several U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) funded brownfield plans and projects including one of the first Brownfield Area-Wide Planning Grants awarded nationwide. He represented the City at various national brownfield conferences and forged a close working relationship with the Assistant Administrator of the EPA. He chaired the City's Street Design Team which reviews all transportation improvement projects within the public right-of-way. B.T. also chaired the Service Excellence at Work Committee which directed all public outreach activities for the City. He conducted GIS work for the planning, building and economic development departments and maintained the City's official online zoning map. He started the use of GIS 3-D modeling for new plans and reports which made visual analysis of proposed plans available to staff for the first time.
Town Council voted unanimously to extend an offer to B.T. in early February 2018. B.T. began his duties as Town Manager February 20, 2018.
