The town water supply is from one mountain spring and three wells. The spring is primary, and the wells serve as a backup supply in times of drought. The water plant is located just west of town at the foot of Cahas Mountain. We treat the spring water with chlorine for disinfection and soda ash to slightly increase the pH. We test for water quality on a regular basis, consumer reports are available below.
James Dillon is the Utilities Manager. He has worked with the Town since 2013 and previously worked at larger water treatment plants in Rocky Mount and the Roanoke area. He holds a Virginia Class I water operations license, the highest certification. Contact Jay at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thanks to a 2009 stimulus grant of $3.4 million, the Town has been able to provide a state-of-the-art water system. This grant included the following: replacing 18,750 feet of water mains, 280 water meters with wireless radio read, a water filtration treatment facility, replacing the spring storage tank with (2) 12,500 gallon stainless steel tanks and a Solar Photovaltaic (PV) 4,500 kw system.
