Welcome to the Town of Boones Mill!
Welcome to the Town of Boones Mill!

The Boones Mill Market Place is the newest addition to a growing local food scene in the Roanoke and Rocky Mount region. The market also revives a long history in Boones Mill of supporting nearby farmers and providing a gathering place for the community.  Jacob Boone built his mill on the creek to serve the earliest settlers of the area which became Franklin County. From 1897 to 1960, the Boones Mill Depot served both passenger and freight traffic, a center for commerce and community. In 2017, concerned farmers and town residents organized and won grant funding to renovate a blighted industrial building as a year-round market.

The market building was once a lumber kiln for the North American modular housing factory. Locally milled lumber was dried here for use in homes exported nationally. In 2008, the factory closed, with over 100 jobs lost. The farmers market helps build a more resilient local economy.

The mission of the market is to provide Boones Mill and the surrounding area with locally grown foods in a direct farm-to-consumer venue and to increase awareness and support of regional agriculture. The main emphasis is on farm products of the area, but the market will also host a variety of artisans and food vendors to further enhance the Town’s diverse and dynamic community.
