Town-Owned Property Details
The Town owns a 55-acre (approximately 45 developable acres) of land on one parcel and the Town Economic Development Corporation owns an adjacent 10 acre parcel which are available for potential purchase and development. The town-owned property includes truck/rail access, water/sewer, broadband internet services, a hiking trail, and a 250,000-gallon water tank (not currently is use). It also includes the five (5) acre Maurice Turner Recreation Area with kayaking/canoeing/fishing opportunities surrounded by an ADA-accessible walking trail.

Property Study and Cleanup Efforts
A Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) of the ~65-acre former North American Homes property was performed in February 2025. Based on historical information, available environmental records, and site reconnaissance. Two (2) Recognized Environmental Conditions (RECs) were identified at the subject property. Details for this analysis and the associated RECs can be found in the Phase I Environmental Site Assessment.
A Phase II Environmental Site Assessment was conducted in September 2025 to confirm the lateral extents of buried waste at the property and to understand potential impacts to soil gas that may affect redevelopment, as required for qualifying brownfields remediation grants from the EPA Brownfields Program.
